Mahakoshal Region had been known to historians and epigraphists for more than a century. the region possesses a vast diversity of inscription ranging from ashok(3rd century B.C.) to late twentieth centuy. the region comprising the ten districts of jabalpur, katni chhindwara. seoni Mandla. Dindori. Balaghat,Narsinghpur, Hoshangabad, and Betual is vaguely called as mahakoshal. Of these the frist eight constitutes jabalpur Division to which the present study is primarily confined.
